THAO PHAM, M.A. CCC-SLP

Thao earned her B.A. and M.A. degree in Communicative Disorders at California State University, Long Beach in 1996 and 1998 respectively. She is duly licensed and certified by the state of California and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Thao is currently on a sabbatical to travel internationally and will be out of the office from 2021-2022.

Thao is very passionate about social skills group therapy and working with clients with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Thao is also a bilingual English-Vietnamese therapist! Her hobbies include traveling with her husband and maintaining her beautiful home garden filled with flowers and plants.

MIKA STOREY, M.S. CCC-SLP

Mika earned her B.A. in Communicative Disorders from California State University, Fullerton in 2012 and her M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from Nova Southeastern University in 2016. She is duly licensed and certified by the state of California and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She previously worked at Sounds Smart from November 2011 to May 2016, and re-joined Sounds Smart in 2018. Mika is currently serving as our interim clinical director from 2021-2022.

Mika is very passionate about family training and education, early intervention, and phonological disorders. Her hobbies include beach days with her family, hosting gatherings with her closest friends, and bike rides with her husband.

MELISSA PHILLIPS M.S. CCC-SLP

Melissa earned her B.S. and M.S. in Speech and Hearing Sciences from University of Utah in 2015 and 2017 respectively. She is duly licensed and certified by the state of California and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She joined Sounds Smart in 2017. Melissa is currently serving as our lead therapist!

Melissa has always had a passion for working with children! She is especially interested in working with early intervention and family training, articulation and phonology disorders, and augmentative and alternative communication. Melissa loves to spend her free time traveling around the world, spending game nights with friends, and walking her dog.

Meet the Therapists!

TAMI REECE, M.A. CCC-SLP

Tami earned her B.A. in Business from Loyola Marymount University in 1993 and her M.A. in Communicative Disorders from California State University, Long Beach in 1998. She is duly licensed and certified by the state of California and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She joined Sounds Smart in 2009.

Tami is very passionate about early intervention and family training. She loves to learn about the unique needs of families while teaching them techniques to bring out their child's strengths. Her hobbies include journaling, amigurumi (Japanese art of crocheting small yarn toys), running, Zumba, cooking, and playing board games with her husband and three adult children.

KRISTI GERMICK, B.A. SLPA

Kristi earned her B.A. in Communication Design from California State University, Chico, in 1999. She is duly licensed and certified by the state of California and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She joined Sounds Smart in 2010.

Kristi enjoys teaching language and pragmatic skills as well as working with early intervention children. Kristi is an adventurous hiker and camper and likes to spend quality time with loved ones!

KYLA LYONS, M.S. CCC-SLP

Kyla earned her B.A. in Speech and Hearing Sciences at Indiana University in 2016 and her M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from Missouri State University in 2018. She is duly licensed and certified by the state of California and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She joined Sounds Smart in 2018.

Kyla is very passionate about working with children with childhood apraxia of speech, phonological disorders, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Her hobbies include hanging out with her daughter and husband, taking her goldendoodle to the dog park, and visiting all the boba tea spots she can find.

KIANA ASATO, M.A. CCC-SLP

Kiana earned her B.A. and M.A. in Communicative Disorders from San Jose State University in 2018 and 2020 respectively. She is duly licensed and certified by the state of California and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She joined Sounds Smart in 2020.

Kiana enjoys working with child language disorders and phonological disorders. She also likes paddleboarding at the beach, walks and snuggles with her dog, and playing games with her family!

MAHNOOR AHMAD, A.A. SLPA

Noor earned her A.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from Santa Ana College in 2019 and will be graduating from California State University, Fullerton with her B.S. degree in Communicative Disorders in May 2022. She is duly licensed and certified by the state of California and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She joined Sounds Smart in 2021.

Noor is an advocate for speech in every way! She is all about providing hope to families and creating a positive impact within the lives around her. Language, in general, holds a very important place in her heart, as there are many ways to express and share all that we are as unique human beings. Noor is proficient in Urdu, Hindi, and even American Sign Language! In her spare time, she likes to create personalized desserts. One can also find Noor at a local plant shop; she is a huge lover of plants -- succulents to be specific!

KATELYN DEAN, M.S. CF-SLP

Katelyn earned her B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from California Baptist University in 2019 and her M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Baylor University in 2021. She is duly licensed and certified by the state of California and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She joined Sounds Smart in 2021.

Katelyn enjoys working with child language disorders and social skills/pragmatic language. In her free time, she enjoys baking bread, reading, and hanging out with her friends!

Meet the Front Desk Staff!

KATHERINE TEAGUE

Katherine is our Office Administrative Assistant/Billing & Insurance Specialist. She joined Sounds Smart in 2021.

Katherine always looks forward to getting to know the parents and families of Sounds Smart clients in order to assist with insurance! She enjoys spending time with her family.

SAMANTHA SALANGA

Sam is our Office Administrative Assistant and Marketing Coordinator. She is currently pursuing her B.S in Communicative Disorders at Biola University and will be graduating in May 2022. She is also interested in pursuing her M.S. in Communicative Disorders in an effort to become a speech-language pathologist. She volunteered with us beginning in 2018 and joined Sounds Smart as an employee in 2019.

Sam's favorite part of working as an Administrative Assistant at Sounds Smart is the rewarding opportunity to schedule clients from their initial evaluation all the way till their graduation from speech therapy! In her free time, Sam loves baking macaron cookies and pastries, performing with her university's dance team, and going on picnics with loved ones. Sam is eager to one day work as a medical SLP in a hospital setting, specifically with adult clients who experience strokes, traumatic brain injuries, and cancer.

BETH NGUYEN

Beth is our Office Administrative Assistant. She is currently pursuing her B.A in Speech-Language Pathology at California State University, Long Beach and will be graduating in December 2021. She is also interested in pursuing her M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology in an effort to become a speech-language pathologist. She volunteered with us beginning in 2018 and joined Sounds Smart as an employee in 2019.

Beth loves helping out with the social skills groups and getting to know the kids! During her free time, she enjoys traveling and teaching kids how to play the piano! She hopes to learn more about Autism Spectrum Disorder and hopes to become an advocate for these children and their families!
